Welcome to the September 2015 edition of the Leesport Current Events Newsletter. It’s a great time to get outside to some of these events and enjoy what remains of the summer weather. As back-to-school season arrives and routines start again, don’t forget to spend some time having fun. Check out some of the most popular outdoor happenings near Leesport, Reading, and Berks County during the month of September, brought to you by DAK Self Storage:
|Mentored Youth Hunter Education and Demo Day
|Berks County Parks Department
|Children ages 10 to 16 are invited to learn about hunting safety, archery, and trapping at the Blue Marsh Lake Hillside Pavilion in Leesport from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This hands-on educational program will be led by staff from the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Cabela’s. Register in advance online and the cost is $10. Lunch will be provided.
|Leesport Area Community Days
|The carnival is back at the Leesport Playground (behind the Main Street Schoolhouse) featuring rides, games, food, music, fireworks, and showcases of several local and historical organizations. This event will take place on Friday, September 11 from 5:00-10:00 pm. and Saturday September 12 from 4:00-9:00 pm. The rain date is September 13.
|The Reading Air Fest

|This year’s Reading Air Fest will take place at the North Ramp of Reading Regional Airport Friday September 11 at 3 p.m. and Saturday the 12th at 11 a.m. Celebrate aviation with a performance by The US Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, classic car show, fireworks, air show, tiki bar, PA Craft Beer Cove, aircraft displays, and more!
|Walk for the Animals and Walktoberfest
|Humane Society of Berks County
|Come raise funds and awareness to improve the lives of animals while having fun at the Walk for Animals. Registrations starts at 10 a.ma and the walk begins at 11 a.m. The walk will follow a scenic route through Jim Dietrich Park. This event will provide family-friendly fun with live music, vendors, and activities. Well-behaved and leashed dogs welcome! Registration is $20 for adults and $10 for kids and all proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Berks County.

|Fall Festival on the Avenue will take place between noon and 9 p.m. along Penn Ave. This event will feature live music, sidewalk sales, specialty foods, a beer garden, children’s activities, and much more!
|Family Fishing Program at Blue Marsh Lake Stilling Basin
|Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission
|Check out this hands-on educational program at the Blue Marsh Lake Stilling Basin in Leesport from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Families will learn basic fishing skills such as knot tying and casting and have the chance to practice their fishing technique. No fishing license is required and equipment is provided. Register online or call 610-374-2944 for more information.

|Reading Pretzel Fest
|Check out local pretzel vendors and have lots of fun beginning at 11 a.m. at First Energy Stadium. Local vendors include Unique, Tom Sturgis, Pretzel Revolution, Dutch Country Pretzels, Fallers, Uncle Henry’s, and more. Admission is $5 and children under 12 are free.

|Reading Liederkranz Oktoberfest will kick off Wednesday, September 30th at 5 p.m. Come on out to this German festival featuring German food, beer, and costumes. This event has been voted 4th Oktoberfest celebration in the world by Business Insider and thousands of visitors from neighboring states come to attend.
