Everyone can now head outside for fun activities and celebrations. Local parks and recreational areas such as Gring’s Mill and Blue Marsh Lake become hubs of activity. Spring Migration Watch Hawk Mountain Through 5/15/15 Catch the returning migration of raptors and other birds at the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary North Lookout! Staff, trainees, and volunteers will be on location daily 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to help identify and teach about the local birds. A trail fee of $6 for adults and $3 for children applies.
Mother’s Day Flower and Vegetable Sale ShoemakersvilleFire Company 5/8/15, 5/9/15, 5/10/15 Buy some gifts for mom and help a great cause! A flower and vegetable sale will be held at the Shoemakersville Fire Company (300 Church Avenue). A range of flowers and veggies will be available to purchase during the 3-day event. All proceeds will benefit the Shoemakersville Firefighters. The hours are as follows: May 8th 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., May 9th 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., May 10th 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Spring Fair and Run Berks Career &Technology Center 5/9/15 BCTC will hold its second annual Spring Fair and 5K Run & 1M FunRun/Walk at its west campus in Leesport. Come on out to participate in the run/walk or just for bingo, raffle items, and food.  Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. for the 10 a.m. 5K and 10:15 a.m. FunRun. Fair will run until 12:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit BCTC’s student organizations.
Arts & Craft Festival and Car Show Hamburg Township 5/16/15 The 5th annual Hamburg Arts and Craft Fest will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 4th and Pine streets.  The day will include a range of  fine art and craft displays, performing artists, children’s activities, a silent art auction, wine tasting, an antique car show, and more. The festival is free to attend.
Children’s book drive and picnic Heidelberg Association, March Forth for Literacy 5/30/15 Come on out to Bern United Church of Christ’s picnic grove (Route 183 at Plum Creek Road) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please bring a children’s book in new or very good condition and enjoy a free picnic, food, and games.
