Hike with a Ranger Army Corps of Engineer’s Blue Marsh Lake 7/9/15 Meet at the stilling basin at 8 a.m. for an early morning walk through Blue Marsh Lake’s nature trails full of beautiful views. A park ranger will guide the hike along Blue Marsh Lake and the Tulpehocken Creek, with a stop at the dam. Prepare for a moderate three mile walk with a few hills by wearing comfortable footwear.
Jingle in July 5k KidsPeace Foster Care and Community Programs Reading 7/11/15 Join KidsPeace for the fourth annual 5k run and 1 mile fun walk at Gring’s Mill Park. Both will take place on the historic Union Canal along the Tulpehocken Creek. The trails are shady and mostly flat. This event is holiday themed and will feature fun decorations, music, and awards. Christmas-themed costumes are encouraged. Cost is $25 and all proceeds will benefit the Kidspeace Foster Care and Community Programs’ Reading office. Donations of new, unwrapped toys and gifts will be collected for foster children. Registrations begins at 7 a.m. and race begins at 8:30 a.m.
25th Annual Summer Craft Fair Leesport Farmers Market 7/11/15 The Leesport Farmers Market is hosting its 25th annual summer craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come see and shop for the creations of over 300 local and regional craftsmen. A wide range of arts and crafts will be displayed in both sheltered and outdoor areas.
Geocaching for Beginners County of Berks Parks 7/15/15 Ever wish you could participate in a treasure hunt? Try geocaching! Learn the ropes of this fun and adventurous activity in Gring’s Mill Park beginning at 6 p.m. Basic GPS navigation and geocaching concepts will be taught to participants of all ages. Bring a handheld GPS if you have one and wear sturdy footwear and comfortable clothing. Call 610-374-2944 to register.
Paddling Skills Workshop Army Corps of Engineers Blue Marsh Lake 7/18/15 Beginner and intermediate participants are welcome to this paddle skills workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Members of the Keystone Canoe Club will teach an informative session on kayak and canoe paddling skills. Basic skills including paddle strokes, boat safety and control, and the use of proper clothing and gear will be taught. This event is for children and adults ages ten and up. Children ages 10-12 must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $10 per person and workshop is limited to the first 25 participants. Register by July 13 by calling 610-374-2944. Meet at the small paved lot to the left of the stilling basin.
Reading Fightin Phillies Home Game Reading Fightin Phillies 7/18/15 Come check out a home game of the Reading Fightin Phillies in FirstEnergy Stadium at 6:35 p.m. The team is a Double A Affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Full Moon Float and Paddle Army Corps of Engineers Blue Marsh Lake 7/31/15 Experience peace and serenity during this unique nighttime paddling experience on Blue Marsh Lake from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Paddle the lake, spot wildlife, and admire the night sky underneath the full moon. Prior paddling experience is suggested, though water safety techniques will be covered briefly beforehand. Please bring your own canoe or kayak, lifejacket, and flashlight or lantern. This event is limited to the first 20 participants and you can register by calling 610-374-2944 by July 27. Rain date will be held on Saturday, August 1. Enter the Lake at the Church Road access off of PA State Route 183.
